Father Herron from Saint Matthew Parish recently announced that St. Gertrude Parish in West Conshohocken would no longer serve as a worship center. In a Times Herald article about this announcement, Herron also provides details on the current state of the sale of SS. Cosmas and Damian Parish property:
Herron said the Christian Coptic Church had made a purchase offer for the SS. Cosmas and Damian Church and rectory building of between $1.4 million and $1.5 million to the Philadelphia Archdiocese in July. The closing for the land purchase is expected in 2016, Herron said.
“The SS. Cosmas and Damian Church building remains a worship site at this time and has not been relegated to profane but not sordid use,” said Ken Gavin, a spokesman for the Philadelphia Archdiocese, in an email. “There has been no agreement of sale for this church with any party.”
Herron said the first Mass celebrated in the renamed SS. Cosmas and Damian Coptic Church next year would honor the two saints.
So expect a lot of news from the sale of at least two of the three closed parishes in 2016.
