If you live in Whitemarsh Township and recently received a sewer bill in the mail from the Bucks County Water and Sewer Authority you are in luck. It is actually a bill you an ignore as it was a mistake. Below is an explanation Whitemarsh Township posted to its social media:
Over the weekend of March 19-20, several Whitemarsh Township residents received bills for sewer service from the Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority (BCWSA). BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
As some residents are already aware, there are certain roads within Whitemarsh Township where wastewater flows from select residences actually flow into Springfield Township. There are various geographical and engineering-related reasons as to how and why this occurs. Springfield Township has always billed the Whitemarsh Township Authority directly for sewer flows treated from these residences. The Authority would remit payment to Springfield Township, and would continue to bill its own residents at the flat rate for all its customers semi-annually. This semi-annual billing structure has not changed and will not change moving forward.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN:
Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority (BCWSA) purchased Springfield Township’s sewer system in December of 2015. This included acquiring the service addresses within Whitemarsh Township that Springfield Township was previously treating wastewater from. BCWSA sent out its first bill for sewer service, since purchasing Springfield Township’s system, last weekend and did so without regarding the existing inter-municipal agreement Springfield Township and Whitemarsh Township Authority already had in place. This would be the reason as to why the bill you received contained wording that read ‘Welcome Springfield Residents’.
HOW IS THIS BEING RESOLVED:
BCWSA has been instructed, as we continue to work with their team, to send all existing and future bills for sewer service, at the aforementioned select Whitemarsh Township residents’ homes, directly to the Whitemarsh Township Authority. In addition, BCWSA has been instructed to send a letter out to all of the homes that sewer bills were mailed to, confirming bills received by Whitemarsh Township residents can be disregarded and were sent out incorrectly on their part.
WHAT DO I NEED TO DO:
As a Whitemarsh Township resident, no action is required on your part at this time. You can disregard any and all bills for sewer service you received from Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority (BCWSA). Additionally, you can continue to anticipate your semi-annual bill for sewer service to come from the Whitemarsh Township Authority in April and October.
