While there is a plan in place to fix the decades old sewer smell that drives people to hold their noses every summer on the east side of Conshohocken, at the recent meeting of Conshohocken’s Borough Council the smell was described as stronger than usual and resulting in people cancelling backyard parties. MoreThanTheCurve.com also received a message recently and the person informed us of a restaurant reservation switch from the east side to West Conshohocken. It is also especially problematic for people in homes without air conditioning. They are left choosing between sleeping in the sleep or a stench.
During the Borough Council meeting, “pumping and hauling” the sewage was discussed, along with requesting that the Conshohocken Sewer Authority conduct the process that generates the smell on a set schedule when it is least likely to effect residents and businesses.
Borough Council does not have direct authority over the Conshohocken Sewer Authority, which is an independent body. We say indirect, because Borough Council does appoint the Board of Directors for the Authority.
Our reading of the conversation was that members of Borough Council really want the Authority to alleviate the current situation by hauling the sewage out of town. There is a cost associated with that and Borough Council can only ask, not mandate.
As we reported, the Authority sent out a letter asking for residents to report and describe the smell. If you think its unbearable, let them know you support hauling it out of town as well. You can call (610) 828-0979 or send an email to info@conshohockensa.com.
