Royal Farms in Moving into Philadelphia Area and That Brings Us to Ask…

The Philadelphia Business Journal is reporting that Royal Farms, a gas and convenience chain out of Baltimore, is working towards an expansion into the Delaware Valley. While this would not normally make our Conshohocken-centric news, the fact that there is a generic proposal for a gas and convenience store before the Zoning Hearing Board makes it relevant. The generic proposal use to be for a Wawa, but Wawa pulled out of the proposed development on the 1100 block of Fayette Street at the Whitemasrsh boarder.

The journal reports:

The company is entering an area in which Wawa has long dominated and others, including Sheetz and On The Run, have tried to nibble out some market share. Royal Farms has 160 stores in Maryland, Delaware and eight in Pennsylvania, though mostly in the central part of the state.

The company chooses to expand into markets where it currently does not have a presence, said Ed Stronksi, a spokesman at Royal Farms.

The company said it doesn’t have a specific number of stores planned for the Philadelphia area.

“That will depend on opportunities that present themselves during our market research,” Stronski said.

We don’t believe we have ever been a Royal Farms. Based on its website, it appears it is very similar to Wawa, with the addition of fried chicken.

So would Conshy welcome a Royal Farms vs. a Wawa? Let us know in the comments.
