The property at 200 Center Street, which is along the Schuylkill River Trail in the Conshohocken section of Whitemarsh Township, has been listed for sale on LoopNet. The listed price is $1,700,000. The listing also states that a lease would be considered.
The property is currently the home of Sundafu Recycling, which is a professional provider of scrap metal recycling, heavy-duty tires, and electronic scrap recycling.
If you followed the Spring Mill Area Multi-Modal and Land Use Study undertaken by Whitemarsh Township, this property was one that was highlighted as an incompatible use for the Spring Mill area due to its proximity to residential uses, the trail, and Spring Mill County Park. Due to this, the study listed it as a property that should be targeted for acquisition and open space preservation if it were to become available.
In the study it states:
The Sundafu Recycling Center property, located at the end of Center Street and adjacent to the Schuylkill River and SRT, is not an ideal use for itslocation given the proximity to the Spring Mill County Park and several residential properties. Unfortunately, it is also highly unlikely that this use or property ownership will change in the near future. However, it may be worth monitoring the status of the property and recycling center long-term, as it could be an ideal spot for remediation and open space preservation within an increasingly stretched floodplain.
In the short-term, consideration should be given to buffering and closing off access to the portion of the recycling center that is visible from the SRT with native, flood-tolerant plants. This would provide a visual
barrier between the trail and recycling center fence and operations, while also restricting access from the trail.
If you can’t place this property, it is just down the trail from the Courts at Spring Mill apartments and the Tricycle Cafe. It is only about 800 feet from the Spring Mill Cafe (but not visible).
