I created a new category in the Conshy Calendar titled “For Foodies”. Under this category I will post more food driven events, like wine and beer pairings, guest chefs, cooking demonstrations, one-time special menu offerings, etc. I just started it, so I hope to had a bunch of these type of events.
The Lincoln Volunteer Fire Company will hold their Community Day on May 22nd (rain date May 23rd) from 11am-2pm at Lincoln Fire Company (252 Roberts Ave). This is a free event with games and prizes for the whole family! There will be refreshments served. Raffles and gift baskets will be up for grabs!
The LuLu Shriners’ Circus just over in Plymouth Meeting will be held from May 28-30th. Details here.

The AMBUCS Restaurant Rally was held this past Sunday and was a huge success. If you haven’t participated before, its basically a bar crawl with an emphasis on food. This year’s winner was The StoneRose, followed by two-time defending champ Trattoria Totaro. The event benefits Special Olympics and raised approximately $14,000. Click to see all the photos.
Mike Schmidt is coming to Conshohocken in August when the Philadelphia Fight host the AMNRL Grand Final presented by O’Neill Properties. Schmidt will make an appearance in the VIP tent and to meet fans and take in his first American National Rugby League Match.
The Conshohocken Farmer’s Market opened two weeks ago. As I learned, most of the regular vegetables, etc., that are sold at the market are about three weeks off from being available. However, last week there were fresh strawberries available, so new items are coming every week as they begin to get harvested. Aaron, the Amish farmer that participates, also has a wide variety of pies, other baked goods and plants.

Hate driving in and out of Conshy and West Conshy during rush hour? While most people blame the bridge, Borough Council member Paul McConnell believes it has more to do with the timing of the lights. He and Mayor Bob Frost are sending a letter to the state asking them to change the timing. The lights in question all fall within West Conshy, however, they are over a state road, so they need to fix it. This is not the first time a request has been made.
The majority of Conshohocken is represented in Congress by Joe Sestak (D). Sestak decided to give up his seat and run in the Democratic Primary against Arlen Specter. Sestak came from behind and beat Specter and will now face Pat Toomey (R) in the general election.
Since Sestak is moving on, Conshohocken will be electing a new congressman. Pat Meehan won the Republican Primary and Bryan Lentz the Democrat Primary.
Don’t worry 1st Ward (one ward in Conshy is not represented in Congress with the rest of us). Incumbent Jim Gerlach (R) is running to keep his seat and will face either Doug Pike or Manan Trivedi, both Democrats. Their primary result from yesterday is still to close to call.
If you live in Greater Conshohocken, those areas of Whitemarsh and Plymouth with Conshy addresses, Dee Adock (R) won his primary to face incumbent Allyson Schwartz (D) in the general election.
Spampinato’s has announced that “Kids Eat Free” all summer (10 and under). Spampinato’s is also a place you can bring your own wine, however, they do offer full bar service as well.
