When Conshy-native Stevie-Rae Smith isn’t serving up sandwiches at Donnie’s Mac’s Deli on 4th, she is a student at Temple University or out on the river rowing for Temple’s crew team. It was recently announced that Temple has cut seven sports from its athletic program including crew. After the news was released, Stevie-Rae wrote to us and requested our help in getting the word out on the effort underway to save the program. Here is her statement and request:
As you may know, Temple Athletics cut 7 of our Division 1 varsity teams this past Friday. Without any heads up my team and I were in complete shock. My team and I are a family. Our lives revolve around being together and being a team. Being apart of this family for the first semester of my college career changed my life in a way that I could have never imagined. I could have never imagined having so many caring, loving, supportive people in my life. As said by my teammate “now more than ever I appreciate what I am apart of. A big, strong, beautiful, kickass family of 50+ girls”. Yes, 50+ girls is a lot, but I know my Conshohocken family is bigger. It would mean the world to me if the word could be spread throughout this town to all of the awesome people who reside in it TO HELP SAVE TEMPLE WOMENS ROWING. It can be as simple as signing our petition, I will attach the link, or reaching out to as many people and media outlets as possible. I know we have some alums in the area and they know what it means to bleed cherry and white.
