Covanta likely to make some noise on April 19-21 and again April 24-25

Covanta has announced via its website that its plant in Conshohocken (Plymouth Township) will be conducting routine maintenance work that could generate some noise from April 19-21 and again on April 24-25.

Below is the announcement:

Covanta Plymouth will begin routine scheduled maintenance work on Monday, April 20. While performing the necessary work, our top priority will continue to be the safety of our employees, anyone entering the facility, and the surrounding communities. The company has implemented extensive new protocols in line with CDC guidance to ensure the health and safety of employees and contractors during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Shutdown of Unit #1 will begin late Sunday evening with a possible slight increase in sound from around 2:00 am to 3:00 am on Monday, April 20, as low pressure steam is vented from the roof vents. There could be also be increased sounds from the maintenance activity, including safety alarms for site personnel, occurring from 7:00 am through approximately 6:00 pm on Monday, April 20 and then again from 7:00 am until noon on Tuesday, April 21.

The work will also include a brief period during which the second unit and the turbine generator are removed from service for maintenance of common systems. Unit #2 is tentatively scheduled for shutdown late Friday evening, April 24, with a possible slight increase in sound from around 2:00 am to 3:00 am on Saturday, April 25, as low pressure steam is vented through the roof vents. Both units and the turbine generator are expected to be returned to service on Sunday, April 26.

The website will be updated to provide information as to when the units are being returned to service. During the return to service period, low pressure steam is again vented from the roof vents, resulting in a short, slight increase in sound from the facility.
