Every year there seems to be a rash of bike thefts, usually from the bigger apartment and condo communities. The Pottstown Mercury has a report of a person actually being convicted for stealing bikes in Conshohocken back in 2014. From the Mercury:
Christian Viola, 37, of the 3400 block of Primrose Road, pleaded guilty to misdemeanor theft and possession of an instrument of crime in front of Judge Steven T. O’Neill Thursday, according to court documents. He was sentenced to six to 23 months in jail.
Viola was arrested in connection with an Aug. 18, 2014 encounter with Conshohocken Borough police, when he was stopped and interviewed for suspicious activity, according to the arrest affidavit. Viola and a companion were riding bicycles and looking into the windows of closed businesses. As an officer spoke with them, he wrote in the affidavit, they appeared extremely nervous.
According to the affidavit, Viola was found in possession of syringes that he told police he used to shoot heroin, along with bolt cutters and cut bicycle locks. Police said the bicycles were taken from the Londonbury Condos on Washington Street. Other bicycle thefts had been reported from the area during that time, as well, the affidavit said.
